i.TV now with horizontal listings grid, movie theater maps and more

Justin

Version 1.3 of i.TV for the iPhone and iPod touch is finally here.

Here’s what’s new:

Grid View: By simply turning your iPhone or iPod Touch from a vertical to a horizontal position, you can now view TV listings in a grid view.

  • View complete channel lineup for the next 3 hours
  • New shows indicated with red corner badge
  • Tap on a show listing to view a “micro-showcard” which includes an episode description, ratings, and an option to jump to the full showcard.
  • Tap on the “Info” button at the top of the grid to jump to pre-set time slices, i.e. prime time
  • Tap on the “Info” button at the top of the grid to navigate to “Options”. From here, you can choose to color code your grid according to categories such as Movies, Sports, Family, News, Lifestyle

Pretty neat, eh? We think so. But wait…there’s more:

Theater Maps & Directions:  Don’t buy a movie ticket online or via i.TV on your iPhone or iPod touch only to get lost on your way to the theater! Now you can get maps and directions to your theater of choice at the tap of a button. Use i.TV to plan your route ahead of time, get directions from your current location, or discover theaters closest to you. Still need more info? The new “call theater” option will help resolve any unanswered questions by connecting you directly with the theater.

Video Streams: In our previous update we added video streams for programs featuring clips, previews, and even full episodes. Over the last month we have been hard at work to bring you even more streaming video content to the application. Our database is updated daily so always be sure to check your on your favorite shows for new videos!

Video Available: We have made it easier for you to find shows with available video streams. To do this, simply tap the information button at the top of a listings view. This will bring up a menu that includes a button called “Options”. Tapping options will bring you to a screen called “Display Options”. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap on “Video Available” as a required attribute. When you navigate back to a listings view, you will now only see shows with availble video streams.

Improved Performance: In this update, i.TV has taken extensive efforts to improve the performance and stability of the application.

Gridview crashes all the time. Click the left/right arrow buttons cause the application to crash. and going from the showcard back to the gridview causes a crash. This makes gridview unusable… A complete disaster!!!!

  • Dave

Thanks, Dave. We try to listen and be responsive to what our users want. We hope you keep enjoying the app.

Excellent app. My only question is the grid view shows me blocks from 6:00 to 9:00 pm then 9:00 pm through 12:00 am. Is there any way to default to 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm ?? I'd like it to always default to prime time both in list view and grid view.

    Bob

Any way to adjust prime time from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM ?

  • Kyle

I love itv it is great!!!!!! I love the fact that you can watch clips and even full episodes is great!!!!!keep it up your doing great with this app

  • marc

i'd like to be able to jump to and alphabetical list showing only 'full episodes' content – regardless of which cable provider i have (or what channels are hidden). it would be like having hulu on iphone and a huge breakthru i would think.

    Thanks, Kyle!

Good suggestion, Marc. You can ALMOST do that right now. Go and tap on the time bar with the “i” symbol at the top of a listings view. Then tap “Options” and after that, make sure that “Title” has a check by it as well as “Video Available”. That's a suggestion that might be helpful for now. Don't worry though, we're working on solutions to make it easier to find videos on i.TV.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! I LOVE YOUR APP!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a shame that I have this wonderful app on this awesome phone & I can't use it properly for the cable (at&t u-verse) that powers the phone I use itself. I mean would it not make sense? I wish I could see the tv show line up with u verse maybe watch a preview and select shows to record with their remote dvr service. Att runs the iPhone so is it not good enough for the iPhone app? I've been waiting for months now I would pay for this app if it had what I wanted. Keep trying.

  • Romitog

Thanks for your hard work to always try to improve. It is paying off. This app is AWSOME and I think it is the best of it's kind out there right now. Thx again!

Donovan–it is frustrating to us as well that we aren't yet able to provide full AT&T U-verse listings for all zip codes. Some areas have it and some don't but we are working hard on it. We feel your pain on this one especially because so many people have asked us for this. Hang in there though. We will resolve this issue as soon as we possibly can.

  • Len

I am still not able to get the corect Chanel line up on 1811 WMHt-DT.

  • http://i.tv/blog Justin W.

Len–have you tried sending an email to support? Make sure you send them your zip code and the name of your TV provider. Just follow the link to the support section of our website.

  • Len

Thanks Justin for responding. Yes I have sent numerous emails and I receive the same message from Yolanda that the problem has been referred to support. That was about a month ago. I see all these great improvements but something as simple as accessing the only real chanel I watch is upsetting.

I feel your pain on this one. This must be a data issue we've reported to our listings provider but hasn't been resolved yet. Our data provider is actually really good about sorting through the data discrepancies we have scattered throughout our system. I'll send an email over to our support team and bring this thread to their attention. If they've got anything new to report, they'll let you know.

  • Len

Hey Justin I don't know if you received this email so I'm resending it. WMHT in Albnay, NY with Time Warner 12205 is broadcast on 4 chanel's in analog and digital. WMHT, chanel 011; WMHTDT2, chanel 200; WMHTDT3, chanel 532; WMHTDT, chanel 1811. The programing between chanel 1811 and the other chanels are mixed up so when I try to record a program Tivo on 1811 it is actually scheduled on 532.

  • Len

Hey Justin did you receive the email I sent you on the various chanels that have WHHT in analog and digital? I don't see my post anywhere.!

  • http://i.tv/blog Justin W.

Hey Len–did you not get an email from i.TV Support? I know they don't have any backlogs right now or anything. There's a possibility that if you sent them an email, it could be in your spam filter….

  • ChrisK

Crash, Crash, Crash. It crashes before i can even press anything….

  • http://i.tv/blog Justin W.

Hey Chris, Sorry you're having problems. My first question: is your phone jailbroken? In our experience, jailbroken devices sometimes have stability issues.

Second question is more of a request. We want to know what's going on with your device and get to the bottom of the problem. Would you be willing to send us your crash logs? If so, please send an email to support@i.tv and tell them Justin sent you and that you'd like to submit crash logs.
